Dear Zeon,
Yesterday I had to take you to Miami Children's Hospital. You started running a high fever that would not go away. It tore at me what they had to do to you to find out what was making you so sick. You had just gotten out of having to wear a helmet then this happens. They poked you, prod you, held you down and all I could do was watch and try to help them do everything as quickly as possible to minimize the pain. The worst was having to draw your blood out. They couldn't find the vein and when they did they didn't draw enough and tried to do it one more time to no avail. I wanted to scream at them!!! Your poor little hand was all red from the rubber band they put around it.
I started to wonder if this is how the mothers who have their daughters genetalia mutilated felt like. They horror and haertbreak at watching your child suffer because you beleive it to be in thier best interest. What I saw them do to you is nothing to what they do to those little girls but still, the emotions that run through you. Part of me just wanted to pick you up and get the hell out of there. My rational part made me stay put. In the end they gave you an antibiotic shot and instructions to alternate tylenol with motrin to control your fever. So far so good. I have to give you your first dose of oral antibiotic and some tylenol soon.
I love you papi. I hope you have super kids with super immune systems so that you never have to feel what I felt when I saw you in such distress.
God bless you my son.
Love,
mommy
